The Ocriculum archaeological area has rightly been defined as 'a land strip at the Umbria's gates': a land full of history, beauty and nature. Ocriculum, from a small Umbrian centre, became an important Roman municipium in the 3rd century B.C., registered in the VI Regio. Its wealth depended on the presence of the port and the crossing of the Via Flaminia. The city probably extended over 36 hectares. The Roman municipium remains of the theatre, amphitheatre, large buildings, nymphaea, large funerary monuments and a well-preserved section of the ancient Via Flaminia.
