The tour runs mainly through the basement of the former Dominican convent of St. Mary Major and the upper church, the city's first Cathedral, where passionate guides will immerse you in a fantastic past. Take a journey through time as you discover an ancient church resigned to obscurity until its rediscovery in 1979.

Six young speleologists from Narnia discovered the site in 1979. Since then, a large group of volunteers has been recovering and enhancing it. In the suggestive 13th-century underground church, dedicated to the Archangel Michael, you'll relive its historical phases thanks to a multimedia system while admiring the recent archaeological recoveries. In the adjacent room, thanks to an interactive video, you'll learn about the excavation systems of the aqueduct in Roman Narnia by virtually entering the tunnel. The heart of the underground contains the dungeons of the Holy Office, established to combat heresies. Thanks to the Vatican Archives, it's been possible to reconstruct the history of some prisoners, who left their testimony graffitied on the walls of a narrow cell. The tour continues to the upper church with the precious Byzantine mosaic of Narnia's first cathedral and numerous other remains and murals. This is no ordinary guided tour: you'll not be mere spectators but protagonists of incredible events!
lessNarni Underground is also recommended for those suffering from claustrophobia due to the presence of large spaces and numerous doors and windows. Photos are not allowed inside, but can be obtained free of charge by sending an e-mail request to: info@narnisotterranea.it
